Try as hard as you can with NO strategy in mind…. said no one ever.
Try as hard as you can with NO strategy in mind…. said no one ever.
and how does that have anything to do with showing up online?
Matt Fraser is a CrossFitter, not just any CrossFitter but for 5 years the fittest man on earth.
In an interview, Matt Fraser said this:
“try as hard as you can with NO strategy in mind- said no one ever about their sport.”
Crossfit has been a big part of my life for many years and I love it.
Love it or hate it, what does it have to do with your online content and showing up online?
Fraser’s comment made me think about not only my own CrossFit training but my online content and yours.
Planning and creating your content and showing up online can feel very overwhelming.
Especially if you don’t have a strategy.
No strategy means you don’t know where you’re headed. This doesn’t help your overwhelm at all.
Without a strategy, you just go until you can’t go anymore or maybe you don’t even get started.
You need to know what to work on if you want to improve.
If you want to be a better CrossFitter you need to know what to work on.
You need to know what you’re strengths are; is it endurance work, gymnastics, or weightlifting?
You need to know what your weaknesses are. Can you do double unders, pullups or squat on one leg?
What are the techniques you need to practice to get better?
And you need to work on them one at a time. Yes, you will still be doing workouts each week but what will you focus on to improve first.
Then you need a plan to help you get there.
When you want to create and keep a healthy online presence. You need to show up online as your true self and not feel overwhelmed with all the things you need to do to make your business successful.
You need to know what to work on.
You need to know what you’re strengths are;
You need to know what your weaknesses are.
What are the techniques you need to practice to get better at these things?
And you need to work on them one at a time, yes you will still be doing workouts each week but what will you focus on to improve first.
Then you need a plan to help you get there.
Sounds a bit like getting better at CrossFit, doesn't it?
You can reduce the overwhelm
Let’s take a look at those things mentioned above.
Take time to learn your strengths:
As far as your online content creation goes:
What do you love to create?
write blogs?
show up on video long or short?
create podcasts?
What do you love to talk about?
are you clear on your message?
are you confident?
are you consistent?
What’s your niche?
who do you love to work with
what problems do you help people solve
These are your strengths
Take time to learn your weaknesses
As far as your online content creation goes:
What do you avoid doing for your online content?
and does it really matter?
Unlike being a CrossFit athlete, you can outsource your online content weaknesses.
So if you don’t like writing you can use a tool like ChatGPT to write your content and then tweak it to make it your own.
If you don’t like showing your face on video, you can do something else like a podcast or video of your pets/ clients/ activity to share.
What techniques do you need to learn?
With a strategy, you can MAKE the time to learn the techniques that are going to benefit you the most.
A couple of techniques will make a huge difference to your ability to stay in for the long haul
a/ Be conservative with your volume
You want quality, not quantity, this is so important
So many people start online with all the enthusiasm you can imagine
They have great ideas and start ( especially on social media ) posting every day, sometimes more than once a day and after a few weeks burn out.
b/ Have an intention for each post/blog/email.
Your content needs a job to do. An intention behind it and to be part of the bigger picture.
When each piece of your content you create fits into your plan and strategy, you reduce the overwhelm of showing up online and you can keep showing up consistently.
to keep showing up for your audience so that they can trust that you will be there for them for the long term
Work on ONE thing at a time
Focus on ONE thing to improve at a time
this will reduce your overwhelm immensely.
By focusing on one thing at a time, your brain doesn’t get distracted by ALL the things it thinks need to be done.
Moving through the process of creating your online content, and showing up as your true self begins with focusing on ONE thing at a time. multitasking is a myth!
A plan to help you get there.
Your best tool to ditch the overwhelm when it comes to your online content is to have a plan.
A plan guides you and gives you focus to do the things you need to do!
Three things to consider with your plan to reduce the overwhelm
keep it simple
focus on the ones
be kind to yourself
Creating and keeping a healthy presence online can feel overwhelming.
The best way to deal with overwhelm is to first be aware of it and then create a plan.
Find your strengths and take advantage of them.
Know your weaknesses, improve them or outsource them.
Work out which techniques you need to learn and implement.
Focus on ONE thing at a time.
Now you have your online content strategy you can show up online as your true self without the overwhelm.
