How to fall in love with the mundane and reach your goals faster
As a coach, you understand your clients need a program to reach their fitness goals, and it follows that you understand that you too need a plan to reach your business goals.
If one of your business goals is to grow your audience online and increase your client base then you definitely need a content plan to get your message out to the people who need your help.
Ideally, an online content plan that is easy to understand, easy to follow and easy to change up as necessary.
As you know it's easier said than done!
How many of your clients have created and stuck to their own fitness program to reach their goals?
You also know that it's easier for your clients to get the results they’re looking for when they know exactly what to do each day. To have it mapped out for them takes away the “decision factor” of what to do today, it's the same for your online content plan
That’s where a well thought out online content plan, where all your daily, weekly and monthly steps are set out for you and your business is priceless.
Fall in love with the mundane
Unlike your content strategy which is the big picture of what you want to achieve, your content plan is the day to day activities you have to do to reach your goals.
They are the mundane repetitive boring details that get your results.
And it’s the details, that so many people struggle with, as they are not exciting and often feel like they aren't working.
Again it’s like the fitness program, learning a new skill, repeating the same movements until they become second nature.
A plan can often take 3-6 months before you see results, which can be awfully frustrating. Often it’s the reason why so many of us are distracted in the beginning and want to try something new.
But like a mentor of mine likes to remind us; fall in love with the mundane. It will work, if, you work the plan and give it the time it deserves.
Working out the details
The hardest part of your online content plan is the same as the fitness program for your clients:
That is figuring out the details to achieve your end goal.
For your clients, it can be:
what workouts do I need to do,
what order to put them that makes sense,
how many days to work out and how many rest days do they need to get the results that they are after.
For you and your content, it's very similar to figuring out the components of your plan.
Implementing a fitness plan is actually harder for your clients than for you implementing your content plan.
Your clients have to do the workout to get the results!
Yes, you have to create your content but you can choose if you want to do it yourself, use a scheduler or outsource it to someone else. Your clients can’t do that!
Some people don't like to be restricted by a plan
An online content plan doesn’t have to be fixed and rigid.
In fact, it shouldn’t be. Like in a fitness program it can change to suit your daily circumstances.
For example, when you schedule a cardio workout, you can run, swim or row.
When you post about your business it can be scheduled in advance, it can be done on the day about one of your topics or it can be done on the day about something that is topical of the day.
Your online content plan is yours to create and adjust as suits your business.
The plan can change BUT the end goal stays the same.
The five simple steps to your plan
Your plan is the mapping out of the steps that you will do every day/ every week / every month / every quarter to make sure you reach your goal and give your content purpose.
The 5 SIMPLE steps to implement your plan.
When - The $64 million dollar question The answer is: when it suits you. If you have time in the mornings’ post then, if you're more of a night owl then that may suit you better.
Where - The two main places are online places you own: like your website and email list .And online places you "lease". that is any of your social media accounts. Choose to be where your audience hangs out.
How often - how much time do you have to dedicate and can you maintain a consistent presence? Think of those people who start a new fitness kick, they come to the gym every day for three weeks until they burnout! As opposed to those people who start coming three times a week. These are the ones who can maintain and even increase the number of workouts as time goes on.
Who -choose your ideal customer. You know who you like to work with. Those clients who understand why they are doing it, who listen and do the work. These are the people you need to speak to.
What - One of the most asked questions around content I hear is: What do I say? I truly believe you know exactly what you want to say. Sometimes the problem can be you have so much to share that you get overwhelmed on where to start. A great way to deal with this is to use the Power of One Matrix.
Make time in your calendar
The very first step to a great plan is to go back to your online content strategy.
What is the end result you want to achieve?
Then think about the monthly, weekly, daily tasks you need to do to reach that goal.
Your content tasks are like your clients’ workouts, if you don’t do the workout you aren’t going to get the results you want.
Once you have the steps figured out, the next thing you need to do is to make time on your calendar to actually DO the activities. Make an appointment with yourself as you would with any other client, to make sure your online content goes out to your audience consistently and persistently.
Schedule these onto your calendar.
Remember to give yourself rest days, and set up your tasks so they can be easily attained and maintained.
Make time to create your content, make time to schedule your content or you can outsource it to other people.
A great plan can bring you great results but only if you action it!
As you know having someone like a coach help you with your strategy and then your plan can help you reach your goals that much faster.
Your content plan is the key to getting your message out consistently and persistently.
Follow these 3 steps:
1/ Make a content plan make sure it’s flexible and moves with your business. Think of it as a fitness program for your business. A day off doesn't derail your fitness journey or your business goals.
2/ Cover the five steps; When, Where, How, Who and What.
3/ Fall in love with the mundane. Schedule those daily weekly and monthly tasks on your calendar.
Remember that you don't have to follow your plan to the Nth degree. If you feel like talking about something that happened this morning then absolutely go ahead and share that!
Think of your content plan like your clients’ fitness program, it's the everyday activities that are going to get them to their goal. It’s the same for you.
The steps need to be clear and easy to follow, it needs to be done at a pace that can be maintained and allows for those days when you can’t show up for whatever reason. If you miss one day it doesn't derail the whole process.
